GOFO Health and Education Inc. was incorporated in January, 2005 and received its 501(c) 3 status in March, 2006. GOFO is also known in the community as Greenville Organic Foods Organization. The purpose of the organization is to educate the public on the benefits of consuming organic foods and to raise awareness on sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation. Organic agriculture practices eliminate the use of toxic chemicals and therefore promote ecological sustainability.
The organization promotes:
- outreach programs on healthy nutrition and organic foods in public schools
- awareness and educational campaigns to consumers
- support to local, organic and natural growers
- publication of informative and educational materials
GOFO outreach programs offer unique learning opportunities for the Greenville community. The mission of these programs is to raise awareness for environmental sustainability which creates a positive impact on the health of individuals and the environment. The benefit to the Greenville community is of distinctive value.
