Sustainable & Organic Agriculture
Sustainable agriculture is a way of raising food that is healthy for consumers and animals, does not harm or degrade the environment, is humane for workers, respects animals, provides a fair wage to the farmer, and supports and enhances rural communities. It is defined as ecologically sound, economically viable, and socially just. Organic foods production is based on environmentally sound practices that nurture the soil, protect biodiversity, and negate the use of synthetic, harmful chemicals, GMO seeds and irradiated foods. Organic agriculture was born from the idea that a healthy and balanced environment significantly benefits crops and the health of those consuming them.
The organization promotes :
- gardening education at public elementary schools
- educational campaigns and events
- awareness of sustainable farming
- support to local organic and sustainable growers
- environmental stewardship and healthy living initiatives
